LOW POLY ILLUSTRATION

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

For this project we were to create an abstract background from polygons and gradients inside Illustrator. The goal of the project was to place colors next to each other that would give the background a 3D feel. We were also asked to think about colors and how they evoke feelings.

PROJECT DIRECTION

Starting with a red color swatch, I worked around the color wheel counterclockwise. Once I filled in enough triangles, I blended the different color sections together using gradients to unify everything together and create more depth.

Using the theme "Take risks, conquer your fears," I decided to use what I had in the background to convey going into the unknown. The blindfolded figure represents blindness and illusions. The focused lighting on the figure represents safety. The hand reaching out towards the red section of the background represents going towards the unknown, despite any fear present, and bringing light into the unknown.

In fear, people take solace in falsehood. To conquer falsehood is to conquer fear.

FINAL ANALYSIS

In terms of envoking my intended meaning, I feel that the piece is successful in doing so. The contrast between the light surrounding the figure and the rest of the piece shows the difference between fear and overcoming fear. The darkness creates an unknown, representing falsehood. The light represents lighting up the falsehood and overcoming fear.
